So you've seen screenshots, maybe even a preview video of Doom3 and you're wondering: How am I going to be able to play that?
I was wondering the same thing, that... and the 1.5 was no longer cutting it. My chip of choice - 2.4ghz, here's why...

Hyperthreading
Faster then what I've got
As far as price goes - easy, you spend as much as you can without taking the massive next step up. Prices fall for chips as newer, faster chips come into being.
There's always the top chip, usually retails for $800-$1000 depending on where the industry is sitting at the time. Then there's the next step down - $400-600, and it gets cheaper as you go.
So the 2.4ghz was enough oomph, for a good enough price, and it supported enough new architechture (hyperthreading, 800mhz bus, Dual Channel DDR) to justify upgrading and get my foot in the door, so to speak.
I'll be updating with a quick little tidbit on each of those:
Hyperthreading
Dual Channel DDR
Higher Bus Speed
I've given up on my previous baby, RDRAM. After 2 years DDR has been able to catch up to the technology that RDRAM originally took advantage of. My original argument was that it wasn't fast enough, then they got up to 266mhz, then 333mhz+ -- then it was the 2 channels of bandwidth vs single channel DDR, no longer an issue with Dual Channel.
I'll also be able to price out a system, full score with esoteric lights and dials to "look" fast as well as crunch.
Behold the Current System:
2.4ghz, 800mhz BUS, RAID, SATA
1GB Dual Channel DDR RAM @ 400mhz
128mb 8X AGP - GeForce FX 5900 @ 400mhz
Sound Blaster Audigy (1.0) w/ external audiophile conduit
100GB Western Digital HD
160GB Maxtor HD
40GB Western Digital HD
Sony 500A DVD-R,+R,-RW,+RW...
The current case of choice is black, two blue-lit pillars of "bubbles" accenting the front panel, and a window on the side. I even added a blue cathode-ray tube for a little bit more shiny-happiness.
I'll post pictures soon as well.
Got a case of the Kazaa blues? Is your computer filled with Gator, spyware, or who knows what?
Get your computer back in it's game with a complete eradication of all that is not supposed to be there with ritualistic cleansing! Well... close, I'll pull all the bad stuff out of there - delete it, and keep it from re-installing itself when you restart. A consultation is included to make sure you know what was there, why it was there, and how not to get it in the future.
Bring it back to life -- $25 flat fee for drop offs, $50 for a house call outside of Springfield.

Hardware:
Upgrades are the price of parts + labor, @ $25 an hour, not usually more than 1-2 hours depending on the configuration.
All Upgrades are backed by 90 days limited warranty on work done. The parts are covered by their own warranty. I take care of any interaction with the vendor and deal with the shipping and replacement.
Consultation and analysis of what will suit your computer needs is all part of the package. I will research any possible configuration and have a quote ready with some possible areas to save on or spend a little more to improve the overall performance/capabilities.
You really do get what you pay for, but I understand that not everyone has the same computer needs. Some are looking for an "internet" computer, others would like to be able to play the latest games, and still others are looking for a work horse for the office, or maybe something to do a little graphic design with.
See how we compare (from 01/08/03):
[ CG Systems ] -=- [ Dell ] -=- [ Gateway ]
The analysis and service is really what it all comes down to. The mainstream companies may look like a good deal, but they're cutting in other areas to give you a low bottom-line.
So please, email me, or call @ 413 433 6417 to start planning your dream system!
